It was a very momentous morning on Friday, as students, teachers, family and friends gathered for the presentation of the 2019 HSC and NAPLAN High Achievers award presentation ceremony, held at the College.
During the ceremony, students were acknowledged with specific awards based on their recent high achievements, which they displayed consistently throughout 2019. Awards were given to Year 7 and 9, 2019 students with excellence in the NAPLAN examinations, as well as those with the highest learning gain. This was followed by the high achieving HSC students of the class of 2019.
The College Dux for 2019 was Erin Andrew. Her hard work in doing her best in all her subjects, and her enthusiasm in being part of co-curricular opportunities, such as Oratory, certainly contributed to Erin's overall success. She spoke to the 1400+ audience of her high school experiences, as well as giving our aspiring students some wonderful words of wisdom:
"(I) encourage every learner to not constantly focus on memorising a syllabus and to instead try and learn about yourself. Knowing yourself is the best piece of wisdom you can have throughout your studies and throughout life. Know when you’ve put the hard work in and when you didn’t quite hit the mark. Know how to allocate your time. Know when to make sacrifices."
"So, as I say my final goodbye to Good Samaritan, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the students past and present all the very best in the future. As Albert Einstein says 'learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow but most of all never stop questioning.'"
