Bill Turner Cup Fever Continues at Good Samaritan!

Our Bill Turner Cup team continued their strong run with a composed 1-1 draw against Thomas Hassall Anglican College, securing a 6-5 win in a tense penalty shootout in the Area Round of 16. Now in its 46th year, the Bill Turner Cup is Australia’s premier school football competition for students 15 and under, featuring over 850 Schools nationwide. This is only our second year in the tournament, making the team’s performance all the more impressive.

After conceding an early goal in the first half, the boys responded with determination and composure. Their efforts were rewarded when Alexander Jefremkov (Year 9 – De Paul) found the back of the net with a well-taken equaliser, bringing the game level.

The second half saw our team take control, creating multiple chances and forcing the Thomas Hassall goalkeeper into several sharp saves. With the score remaining 1-1 at full-time, the match moved into extra time and then to penalties — where the drama truly unfolded.

Christopher Lazar (Year 10 – Mackillop) stepped up in spectacular fashion, pulling off two outstanding saves in the shootout. He then calmly slotted home the winning penalty himself, capping off a memorable performance. It was another composed and united effort from the squad, showcasing their teamwork, resilience, and ability to perform under pressure.

With much of the school gathering to watch the final moments, the atmosphere was buzzing. The support from the sidelines brought a real sense of unity and pride to the afternoon, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

A special congratulations to Elijah Antoun (Year 10 – Chisholm), who was named Player of the Match by the referee for his outstanding performance in central defence. His composure, leadership, and ability to read the game played a key role in keeping the opposition at bay.

Well done to the boys on another strong result, and thanks again to our fantastic supporters who helped create a great vibe on the day! The team will now face Macquarie Fields in the Area Quarter Final — another exciting home fixture. On to the next round!
