It has been a busy and exciting term for our Book Club members! During Book Week, our dedicated members helped sort, wrap and sell books for our Mystery Second-Hand Book Stall, spreading the joy of reading throughout our school community and raising money for charity.

We have also been enjoying some wonderful discussions, including reading the short story Eraser Tattoo by Jason Reynolds and sharing our all-time favourite book characters and the reasons why they hold a special place in our hearts. These conversations have allowed us to discover new books, appreciate different perspectives and celebrate the characters who inspire us.

We are also saying a very special goodbye to our Year 12 member, Emiliano, who will be greatly missed by our Book Club community. We wish him all the best for his future and hope it is filled with wonderful stories, exciting adventures and plenty of reading!

A reminder to all students: Book Club meets every Wednesday at recess in the library, and everyone is welcome! Whether you are an avid reader or simply looking for a quiet space to discover your next favourite book, come along and join us.

Book Review by Year 7 member Kyros: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

“Twenty-five years ago, Harry Potter began an adventure filled with magic, friendship and danger, all while facing the darkest wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort. Along with his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry becomes part of one of the most memorable trios in the wizarding world, experiencing adventures involving soul-sucking Dementors, the prison of Azkaban and the fight against a corrupted Ministry of Magic. However, it all began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

On Harry’s 11th birthday, he receives a letter of admission from Hogwarts. After the Dursleys, particularly Uncle Vernon, attempt to prevent him from receiving the letter, more and more letters begin to arrive. Eventually, Harry is visited by Rubeus Hagrid, a giant of a man who reveals the astonishing news that Harry is a wizard! Upon entering Platform 9¾, Harry boards the train to Hogwarts, where he meets his future friends and notorious Slytherin student, Draco Malfoy.

Harry, Ron and Hermione soon stumble upon the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone, which is being kept within the chambers of Hogwarts. After tackling a troll from the dungeons and facing a three-headed dog, the trio comes face-to-face with a series of trials that put their friendship to the test. When Harry makes a shocking discovery, he must fight to keep the Philosopher’s Stone out of the hands of dark wizards.

Overall, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a fantastic beginning to the wizarding world. Even after 25 years, it remains one of the greatest books in existence. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a little bit of magic in their lives and wants to avoid the feeling of boredom. I loved it!”
