It has been an exciting term in the world of Kings and Queens…
SCS Gala Day
On Wednesday the 10th of June our 6 teams, consisting of 22 students, travelled to St Anthony's of Padua in Austral for the Sydney Catholic Schools Chess Gala Day. Competing against 9 other SCS schools and over 140 students, our 6 teams battled it out through 6 gruelling rounds lasting 30 minutes each. Every single one of our competitors played with grace and exemplary sportsperson ship. Thank you for your excellent representation of the Good Sam community.
A special congratulations to our Intermediate Team 2 who placed 4th in their division. Excellent work Tulo Aukusitino, Divjot Sidhu, Joseph Evangelista and Ethan Jong.
Thursday Sport Chess Sessions
Our Thursday afternoon chess sessions led by Sydney Academy of Chess coaches have continued over the term with 10 Polding A and B ending their 5 weeks of chess classes with a round robin tournament. A huge congratulations to Ryan Chu for achieving 1st place, Alexis Royce coming in 2nd place and Aidan Miceski in 3rd place Aidan Miceski. It truly is an incredible moment to watch students, some of whom had never played a game of chess 5 weeks prior, play a tournament with confidence and skill. They should be very proud. Well done to all Polding A and B students.
Tuesday Chess Club
Lunch time Chess Club has continued all term with friendly battles, strategy discussions and skill-building puzzles. Our members have enjoyed tackling a range of checkmate challenges, from simple one-move checkmates to more difficult puzzles requiring careful planning and calculation. These puzzles have helped students develop their problem-solving skills, pattern recognition and ability to think several moves ahead. It has been fantastic to see players of all experience levels challenging themselves, sharing ideas and celebrating their successes. We look forward to more exciting matches and puzzle-solving in the weeks ahead!
Try your hand at one of our puzzles… Can you find a checkmate?

Chess Club is open to everyone, if you are interested please join us for the last meeting of the term next Tuesday, week 11, in the St Joseph’s Function room.
