Embarking on a New Journey: Year 7's First Day at GSCC

The 31st January marked the first day of secondary school for our new Year 7's at Good Samaritan Catholic College. While many were nervous at the prospect of starting high school, there was undoubtedly great excitement across the cohort in beginning the next chapter of their lives.

The students first gathered in the hall and were greeted by their Year Coordinators;  Ms Djuric and Mrs Grbevski and the PC team. They were given information about their first day of school, and were also introduced to their grade’s 2024 theme and motto. This year’s theme focused on growth and improvement: “Grow through what you go through”, where when compared to a tree, our students have every possibility to grow and improve in 2024.  Year 7 were also addressed by the College’s new Acting Principal, Mr. Grana where he provided a welcoming introduction to the new cohort.

At the conclusion of the year meeting, students were given the opportunity to find their House Groups and meet their Year Coordinators and Pastoral Care teachers. After the meeting, the students were taken to their Pastoral Care (PC) classes to meet their classmates and teacher. There, they received their school diaries and phone pouches. They were also assigned lockers to put their bags into and began using their College diaries.

The Year 10 Peer Support leaders, who were already somewhat familiar with the cohort after meeting them on their Orientation Day in 2023, introduced the students to the Good Samaritan Way’s expectations and responsibilities.  The students also had a chance to get to know their new classmates and become more familiar with the daily processes of our College.

Overall, Year 7’s first day was a great success which was filled with lots of excitement and new beginnings. We wish them all the best as they continue their Good Samaritan Catholic College journey!
