First stop - Rome
Day One - After 39 hours of travel on three connecting flights, we finally made it to the Eternal City. As we stepped out into the warm summer air, there was an immediate sense of excitement about the experiences to come. In the afternoon, we settled into our hotel rooms and shared our first Mass together with other bus groups staying at the same hotel to mark the beginning of our pilgrimage journey.
Day Two - We woke up early to start our pilgrimage by visiting the masterful architecture and artwork in the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano.
With renewed spirits, we went to the Colosseum, the largest standing ancient amphitheater in the entire world - one of the seven wonders, in fact! During our tour of the Colosseum, we learned about the complex history behind this magnificent historical monument, which was also a place of Christian martyrdom.
Following this, we made our way to the Basilica of Saint Sebastian, where we shared our first Mass with Most Rev. Bishop Umbers. Soon after this, we had the opportunity to take part in a guided tour underneath the basilica to view the Catacombs of San Sebastiano.
