As we begin another exciting year at Good Samaritan Catholic College, I’d like to share some of the wonderful opportunities available to our students across Sport, Dance, STEM, Public Speaking & Debating, and our growing after‑school clubs.
Sport
Our sport program continues to offer a wide range of recreational and competitive opportunities for students of all abilities. Weekly sport provides exposure to activities such as ice skating, ten‑pin bowling, martial arts and more, while our Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) interschool competitions allow students to represent the College across four terms in sports including Basketball, Touch Football, Soccer, Rugby League, Netball, AFL, Rugby 7s, OzTag and Volleyball.
We are also proud to participate in a variety of SCS Gala Days, including Mountain Biking, Badminton, Futsal, Table Tennis, Golf and Field Hockey. These events continue to grow each year and provide fantastic pathways for students to challenge themselves and compete with pride.
Representative sport begins next week, and we are eager to build on last year’s success. After the final Term 4 standings, Good Samaritan currently sits 3rd overall in the Boys division and 2nd in the Girls division—a result earned through strong performances in OzTag, Volleyball, Mountain Biking, Badminton and Futsal. We look forward to seeing our students continue to rise.
Students aspiring to higher honours can also pursue NSWCCC representative pathways. These opportunities allow talented athletes to trial for Sydney Catholic Schools teams, progress to NSW Combined Catholic Colleges, and potentially represent NSW at School Sport Australia events. Information about trial dates and nomination processes will continue to be shared via Compass.
Dance
Our Dance program provides students with opportunities to perform, compete and express themselves creatively. Students can participate in the SCS Eisteddfod and other performance events throughout the year, building confidence and developing their artistic skills in a supportive environment.
STEM
For students passionate about innovation, our STEM Club—run by Mr Borg and Miss Woods—meets on Thursday afternoons. Students explore coding, engineering, robotics, AI and digital design, with opportunities to compete in challenges such as the STEM Video Game Challenge, F1 STEM Racing and the Minecraft Competition.
Public Speaking & Debating
Good Samaritan has a proud history in Public Speaking and Debating, including last year’s success in the CSDA competitions. Our Oratory Society, led by Mrs Marsden, continues to offer students opportunities to develop their communication, critical thinking and leadership skills. Trials and competition information are shared early each term.
After‑School Clubs: Ceramics & Art
Students seeking a creative outlet can join our Art Club and Ceramics sessions, led by Miss Patsiokostas. These after‑school workshops give students the chance to explore drawing, painting and hands‑on ceramics in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It’s a wonderful space for students to express themselves and develop their artistic abilities.
