A number of our students recently helped commemorate the service of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans who served our country on Gadigal land. Held in Sydney, the event featured speakers who read poems left behind by those who went to war, followed by a traditional smoking ceremony and a Welcome to Country presented by Uncle Allen Madden.
Throughout the day, an Aboriginal dance group performed “Walanbaa,” a dance symbolising strength. As the commemoration concluded, the Governor, various community members, schools from around the area, and our own students paid tribute by laying wreaths around the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander armed service statue. Afterward, the students enjoyed lunch together before taking the train back to Glenfield and returning to school on the GSCC bus. The entire day was a profound and unforgettable experience, bringing the community together to honour those who served in war.
