Inspiring Future Voices: Michael Usher Visits Good Samaritan Catholic College

Good Samaritan Catholic College was honoured to welcome Michael Usher from 7NEWS, who visited the College to observe and engage with the wide range of initiatives taking place across the school. His visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the dynamic learning environment at the College, particularly the work of the Special Events and Media Team, which offers students a unique and authentic platform to develop skills in media production, communication, and storytelling.

A highlight of the visit was an interview conducted by members of the Media Team. Students took the lead in planning and facilitating the discussion, demonstrating professionalism, confidence, and strong communication skills. Through this experience, they engaged directly with Michael Usher, asking insightful questions about his career journey, the evolving media landscape, and the demands of working as a leading journalist in a fast-paced industry.

Michael generously shared his expertise, providing students with practical advice on effective reporting, presenting with clarity and confidence, and engaging an audience. He also offered valuable perspectives on the importance of preparation, adaptability, and maintaining integrity in journalism. The opportunity to receive real-time feedback and guidance from an experienced media professional was both inspiring and highly beneficial for students.

The visit served as a meaningful real-world learning experience, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in an authentic context. It further reinforced the College’s commitment to innovative and engaging learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Experiences such as this not only enhance student learning but also inspire future pathways in media and related fields, reflecting the strength and vision of the College’s co-curricular programs.

We thank Michael Usher for giving his time to inspire the next generation of storytellers at Good Samaritan Catholic College.
