Step right up, Step right up! A tale of fairy prancing, adventure, and chaos has transpired amidst us!
This year's pantomime performance presents an original play titled ‘The Golden Amulet’.
What is a pantomime you may be pondering? Well a pantomime is a form of theatre directed specifically for younger audiences, incorporating exaggeration, music, topical jokes, and is based on a fairy tale or nursery story. Not only do pantomimes hold comical value, they hold cynical messages that address real word rhetoric.
This year's Pantomime ‘The Golden Amulet’ is created and staged by Year 10 Drama and teachers Ms Cal and Ms Knezevic, Music by Year 10 Music and Mr Cancino, Tech Work by Mr Mayes, Set and props by Mrs Magnayon and Media by Mr Collucci.
The story takes place in the magical kingdom of Lilyglow. Three Princesses of differing attributes, Marina princesses of the sea, Eliana princess of the forests, and Aurora princess of the sky, all dwindle the kingdom. Their trusted advisor Sir Sniffles and sidekick Bubbles informs them that the position of fairy queen is up for grabs, but is decided by a daring act of bravery. Although, one challenge seems to surpass them all - Metallica.
Trouble rears its evil head as the oil CEO Metallica from humanland, slips into the kingdom and steals the precious Golden amulet - the kingdom's life source - which habilitates the power to corrupt and destroy the land when in the wrong hands! It is now up to brave heroes to apprehend this trojan.
Overall the pantomime touches on the importance of working together to solve tremendous problems, and that power is best when it's shared among multiple individuals, instead of being constrained to one - integral messages for modern day society.
In order to fully construct such a monumental show, drama students went through a long and rigorous creation process spanding two terms. The first step in such a long creation process was the brainstorming phase where each of the students brainstormed components they wanted within the play, as well as creating each character, traits, characteristics and ultimately their goals from the start to the end of the play. Next was the creation of each scene where students helped create and write scenes and their events. After came one of the most important steps within the creation process, which was the staging of each scene. This involved carefully choreographing where each character would stand, move, and interact on stage to ensure clarity and engagement. We used key elements of drama such as space to fully show the dynamic and relationships of each character as well as fully embodying each character. Next came memorising lines and polishing the staging and clarity of each scene. Set and costume design also helped bring each character to life and create the proper atmosphere of the kingdom of Lilyglow. FInally, year 10 music and 10 Drama combined to encompass rich music pieces with powerful acting and storytelling.

Our first audience were young year 4 students, who were dazzled and enchanted by the kingdom. Performing for such a young audience felt breathtaking. Next was our performance amongst students here at Good Samaritan, which caused a lot of nerves as well as excitement, being able to perform with many familiar faces within the grade from across many grades. Finally, was our performance with all individuals across the community being our last performance where we all gave it our all and shared fun and laughter during and after the performance.
What I enjoyed most about the pantomime experience was being able to collaborate with my peers to create powerful memories and bodies of work together that I will remember for a very long time and would love to do again in the future. Pantomime helped me become more comfortable to act in front of an audience and to not worry how I was perceived, and to instead stay fully in character and enjoy what I am doing.

Overall drama is an amazing experience, subject and curriculum allowing me to boost confidence in public speaking, embody new and deep characters, and build new experiences and bonds with those around and on stage, ultimately being an amazing experience for those wanting to boost such aspects.
