We're incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding performance of both our Intermediate Girls and Boys teams at the recent Wanderers Cup finals series. Their place in the finals was well-earned after their brilliant success at the regional gala day earlier this year, and they certainly represented our school with skill and determination!
Both teams showed great form from the start. Our Girls team put in a dominant performance, securing excellent wins against Rouse Hill High School and Castle Hill High. They only went down to a strong Westfields High side, showcasing their high level of play. Unfortunately, after a couple of injuries and fatigue from the heat they went down to a very strong and in form William Clarke College in the semi finals, ending their run.
The Boys team were equally strong, securing three convincing wins to top their pool and advance with momentum into the knockout stages. The competition intensified in the finals series, and our Intermediate Boys delivered some unforgettable moments. Their quarter-final clash against Belmore Boys High School ended in a draw, leading to a dramatic, nail-biting penalty shootout. Thanks to some outstanding saves from our goalkeeper Pablo, they successfully clinched their spot in the Semi Finals!
They carried that momentum forward with a convincing win against Mitchell High School, setting up a Grand Final showdown against a strong Westfields Sports High School A team.
By this stage, the boys had played five games under the hot sun. They battled fiercely, with the score tied at 1-1 heading into half time. Despite their incredible effort and fighting spirit right up to the final whistle, they ultimately finished with the silver medal after a 3-1 loss.
We are very proud of both our boys and girls teams and the way they carried themselves throughout the day. Our players demonstrated skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the long, demanding day of competition. We extend our sincere gratitude for the ongoing partnership with the Wanderers, which provides these valuable opportunities for our students. We look forward to more chances to showcase our school's talent on the pitch in the future!
