After the intensity of the Trial HSC examinations, there is real value in taking a breath.
For Year 12, the weeks after the trials can feel like a turning point. Much of the school journey is behind them, yet some of the most significant moments still lie ahead. The Reflection Day gave students the chance to step away from study schedules and exam papers, and to spend time thinking about who they have become, what they have shared, and how their faith can guide them into the final chapter of their time at Good Samaritan.
It was a day shaped by faith, gratitude and community. Through prayer, conversation, creativity and celebration, students were invited to look back with appreciation and look forward with hope.

Affirmation and conversation helped students honour the journey
During the morning, students took part in affirmation writing. This simple activity encouraged them to recognise the strengths and goodness they see in one another. Affirmations can be powerful because they name what is often left unsaid. A kind word from a peer can remind a student that their patience, humour, leadership, loyalty or quiet perseverance has been noticed.
For a cohort nearing the end of school life, this was a meaningful way to express gratitude.
Students also took part in podcast conversations, sharing memories and insights from their time at Good Samaritan. These conversations created space for honest reflection. They gave students a chance to speak about moments that mattered, friendships formed, challenges faced and lessons learned. Some memories may have been light-hearted. Others may have carried deeper meaning. Together, they helped capture the shared life of the year group.

Prayer placed faith at the centre of the day
The Reflection Day also invited students into prayer and spiritual reflection.
Throughout the morning, students prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and took part in Lectio Divina. These prayer experiences gave them a chance to slow down and listen.
The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a prayer of trust in God’s mercy. For Year 12 students facing uncertainty, decisions and pressure, that message is deeply relevant. It reminds them that they do not walk alone.
Lectio Divina, a prayerful reading of Scripture, invited students to hear God’s Word in a personal way. Rather than rushing through a passage, students were encouraged to sit with it, notice what stood out, and allow it to speak into their lives.
This kind of prayer can be especially meaningful at a transition point. It does not demand instant answers. It creates room for stillness, reflection and trust.
Students also learned about the life and witness of St Carlo Acutis. Known for his deep love of the Eucharist and his ability to use modern tools to share faith, St Carlo offers a relatable example of holiness for young people. His life shows that faith can be lived with joy, purpose and authenticity in ordinary daily life.
For Year 12, his witness offered a reminder that sainthood is not distant or abstract. It begins with simple choices, a generous heart and a life centred on Christ.

Mass brought the cohort together in gratitude
After a BBQ lunch shared together, the cohort gathered at Good Shepherd Catholic Church for Mass, celebrated by Fr Simon. Students had spent the morning remembering, listening and praying. At Mass, they brought those reflections together in worship and thanksgiving. It invited students to recognise the gift of the community around them before the final weeks move quickly.

Looking ahead with hope
The final chapter of Year 12 brings mixed emotions. There is excitement, pressure, anticipation and the reality of change. The Reflection Day gave students a steady moment before that final stretch.
It reminded them that their worth is not measured only by results. Their story includes friendships, acts of kindness, moments of courage, prayer, perseverance and joy.
As our Year 12 students look ahead, they do so carrying the support of their teachers, families, peers and faith community. The day offered a clear message for the weeks to come: keep going with trust, remember what has shaped you, and step forward with gratitude.
May this Year 12 Reflection Day Faith Gratitude and Community remain a meaningful memory for the cohort as they continue their journey beyond Good Samaritan Catholic College.
